Ceres Hazy ISA

Ceres Hazy ISA

When we were asked to design a label for Cannery Brewing’s contribution to Pink Boots day, we were not only immediately excited for the opportunity to contribute to the society that celebrates women in brewing, but extremely pumped for the opportunity to utilize an often underused and overlooked colour for use on beer labels. So. Much. Pink.
Upon researching the beers namesake, Ceres, godness of grain, agriculture and motherly love, we learned that a pregnant sow was sacrificed in the spring to ensure the vitality of the crops. Not wanting to spoil the pink colour scheme within abundance of red for the sacrifice, we came up with an alternative…and less gory…narrative, of Ceres showing mercy and sparing the sow, though a slight menace is implied in the position of the growing grain wrapping around the sow’s throat.
Somewhat counterintuitively, the pink colour somehow complements floral flavour of the Beer, while the soft, charcoal rendering of the scene speaks to the cloudiness of this hazy ISA. .
